“In a time when the only thing that remains constant is change, Sydney Design 2014 celebrates the myriad of exciting ways designers and producers are harnessing this new technological revolution.”
Hungry for the latest in design? Feed your curiosity at the Sydney Design Festival happening all over Syd-vegas right now. With forums, workshops and exhibitions, talks and tours, it’s a veritable smorgasbord of inspiration.
Gorge yourself on feral experimental and augmented digi-design then savour the art of the handmade. Listen to the latest and bravest debate the way(s) of the future, then get hands-on and create something yourself.
Get greedy for all the things. Sate your grey matter. Leave feeling sated!
In this its 18th year, Sydney Design is exploring the transformation of design in the twenty first century. The festival looks at the changing ways we design, produce, consume and interact. It draws together the creative community to network and negotiate innovations with provocateurs rubbing shoulders with traditionalists.
As the lines between designer, publisher and consumer blur beyond distinction, we’re experiencing a democratisation of design. New technologies and platforms for engagement are rising from the ashes of the old models of production and design.
The festival delves into the latest in visual communication from 3D printing to digi-age jewellery making. There are curated and architectural walking tours and interactive light installations. Attend a stencil press workshop, make a replica car with your kids, then visit a bespoke furniture workshop and breathe in the smells of beeswax, timber and sawdust.
Or if you’re more nocturnal, there’s the Late Night at the Museum for beats (courtesy of Future Classic DJ’s), eats (from the Eat Art Truck) and a browse of the exhibitions. Refresh yourself with something from the cash bar and save a space for some festival cake. Made by taste maestros Black Star Pastry – it’d be rude not to.
