Styling Your Foyer

Isla Console Table

Your foyer is the first impression people have of the interior of your home. It needs to reflect your home’s personality. But that doesn’t mean it can’t still serve a purpose.

The Clever Console Table

Rosanne Console Table

First up is the console table. Console tables are a timeless by-the-door furniture piece. They offer a convenient place to store all your essentials—keys, wallet, purse, sunglasses—without cluttering up your hallway. Plus they present a strong surface for decorative opportunities. Little accents like vases and bowls are perfect on a console table. You could also try candles as they can make your home smell amazing as soon as you walk in. (The problem with this, of course, is that we don’t spend a lot of time in the foyer and you might forget about your candle so remember to keep an eye on it.)

No matter how you decorate your console table, it’s sure to be an always-convenient foyer accent.

Effortless Storage

Storage isn’t something we often associate with style, but there’s no reason you can’t organise your belongings right by the door.

Attractive shelving can perform a similar function to a nice console table, but wall-mounted shelving lets you play with vertical décor a lot more. No more bending down to pick up your sunglasses in the morning!

Storage can also make styling for more than one person a bit simple. Making your styles work together isn’t easy, but with a storage or display cabinet, everyone in the household can showcase their aesthetic in the foyer.

Welcome Wall Décor

The above ideas are all about maintaining an attractive look while making your life easier. Unfortunately staying attractive is a secondary function for console tables and storage. This is when wall decor comes into play.

A big part of a foyer is a last-minute stop to make sure you’re prepared to head out the door, so what would work better in this space than an attractive mirror?

Or perhaps you’re more into a gorgeous piece of art to make you smile as you step out. Or maybe even you’re just looking to show off your style to your guests when they enter your home.

Wall décor is also a great opportunity for renters or stylists who change their mind a lot. Non-permanent wall decals or stickers can add a sense of personality to your foyer, but are easy to remove if you change your mind.

Just remember to choose the right artwork and hang it the right way for your space.

Shoe Storage & a Seat

Chaussure Shoe Cabinet, Black

Who among us hasn’t found ourself running late, trying to put our shoes on at the door, hopping on one foot at a time?

To avoid this occasionally embarrassing debacle (try explaining the bruise you get when you fall over after trying to put your shoes on standing up) we love the idea of a shoe cabinet in the foyer.

We may think that shoes belong in the closet with our clothes. But there’s no need to wear shoes in the house! Pop them on just before you leave. So where’s the best place to keep them then? By the door, of course. And if you can get a stylish shoe cabinet that is also a chair to sit on to avoid the shoe hop, well why not?

The Combo

OK so maybe it’s cheating, but who says we can’t combine it all? And even add in extra little ideas. A coat rack, a valet stand, photos of loved ones, an umbrella rack. The foyer is everything you let it be.
