While social media goes crazy over giant floats, neon lights and colourful beach accessories, we dished out on the behind-the-scenes inspirations of the trend-setting summer brand, SUNNYLIFE.
SUNNYLIFE is the epitome of summer celebration. With a focus on Australian style and a love for ‘vacation-mode’, the fun-filled brand offers something special for adults and children alike.
Captivated by their colourful poolside companions, we got the inside scoop on the brand’s signature icons and upcoming summer collection from SUNNYLIFE’s, Jacqui Knox.
Could you tell us a bit about the SUNNYLIFE brand? How did it all start?
SUNNYLIFE was founded in 2003, with the vision to service and enhance the best parts of life under the sun. Conceived on the beaches of Sydney, we were established with a simple goal – sharing Australia’s authentic summer style with the rest of the world.
We are best known for our huge assortment of every must-have summer item imaginable, featuring fashion referenced bold graphics, show-stopping prints and trend-setting packaging.
Summer fruits, cacti and tropical animals are signature SUNNYLIFE style – how did this vision come about? What was the inspiration?
We are inspired by summer iconography every season and the Tropics, in general, are a constant and timeless source of inspiration. The way in which the Tropics inspire the brand evolves, however, there are some icons that have become a core part of the brand’s visual identity.
SUNNYLIFE as a brand uses the ‘smile factor’ as a gauge for the icons, patterns, colours and product concepts that will or will not make the cut in any season. We have found that our fans love the playful nature of our core icons as much as we do.
Lush foliage, juicy fruits and tropical animals – these icons, in particular, represent a life or a style of living that is far removed from the ‘rat race’ of western culture, an isolation from responsibility and an escape from anything other than cocktails and tan lines.
From Haute-Hawaiian prints to garden-inspired patterns and jewellery, a bold and bright tropical palette can give any collection a serious dose of ‘vacation-mode’.
What is the biggest SUNNYLIFE seller? And which is your personal favourite?
This summer our Rose Gold Flamingo Luxe Float took the crown on our bestseller, overall it would be our collection of inflatables but our collection of lighting and beach accessories (towels, umbrellas etc.) are a very close second.
That’s a tough question but my personal favourite would be our neon light range. I love the small neons as they are a great addition to my work desk and definitely brighten up the day.
What is SUNNYLIFE up to when the summer season is over?
We are chasing summer! Once summer slows down here in Australia we will make our way up to the northern hemisphere to enjoy their beautiful summer.
This year we are expanding our European market which is very exciting and will be our first major European summer. SUNNYLIFE will also be popping up over the USA with our signature pop-up stores along with collaborating on some great summer events.
Could you tell us what’s in the works for SUNNYLIFE? What can people expect and look forward to next?
We are full of surprises for our summer 17/18 collection. Sunnylovers can look forward to our best season yet with bright and bold new prints, innovative designs and some exciting new icons added to our range.
We have exciting collaborations, events and activations all in the works ready for summer. SUNNYLIFE is definitely a space to watch, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we have planned.
