There are so many wonderful parts of being an expecting parent, and one of them is the fun of throwing (or having a friend throw you) a baby shower! But as we move forward, are gender reveals a thing of the past?
The creator of the gender reveal herself is now not into them any more. She posted to Facebook, saying she now understands the idea of assigning attributes to children based on gender doesn’t make sense. So what does this mean for baby showers? The go-to attraction at baby showers has been the gender reveal for years. So what should expecting parents have at their baby showers now?
So, whether you’re hosting the event for yourself and your bub or for your expecting bestie, there’s still plenty of fun to have at a baby shower. Grab your pregnancy-friendly mocktail and get to it!
You can still have cake at your baby shower
Just because you’re not slicing into a surprise-filled, gender colour-coded cake doesn’t mean you can’t have cake! In fact, you can make things a little easier on yourself and o for cupcakes instead. This way there’s no need to slice and serve, guests can just grab a cupcake when it’s cake time.
An extra bonus for cupcakes, you don’t need to commit to a colour. Consistency is nice and matching cupcakes are cute, but there’s also space to explore then entire colour spectrum in your cupcake decoration for a fun finish.
You can still have a theme at your baby shower
Colour themes are fun! In fact, themes in general are fun! Think beyond colour if you like. Perhaps host a Victorian Era-inspired soirée, a futuristic event full of space-age style, or classy, black & white tones. Pastel colouring is always classic and you really can’t go wrong with these soft tones. You can even consider animal themes for your event. Maybe the whole event is a teddy bear picnic. These kinds of events can also entertain any little ones that are attending. For the literary-minded parents, why not style the whole event after Dr. Seuss or The Very Hungry Caterpillar (or a different kids’ book that you maybe prefer)? The options are limitless, way beyond the gender spectrum!
You can still open gifts at your baby shower
The best thing about any party is gifts, and we wouldn’t expect contemporary parents to forgo them. It’s totally up to you if you have a gift-opening moment at your party (perhaps all that focus zeroed in on you is intimidating) but if you’re interested in that kind of thing, make an activity of it! It gives your guests a moment to ooh and ahh over those adorable baby-sized items (teeny baby shoes and socks are so cute) that you’re sure to receive.
