With a few daily habits, you can find yourself living in a relaxed hotel environment every day – in your own bedroom!
Motivate yourself to develop these five cost-free (and super easy) habits and you’re guaranteed to turn your bedroom from havoc into heaven.
1. Make your bed every day
You guessed it, first on the list. Mum might’ve nagged you when you were young to make your bed every day and now that you’re an adult, you’ve neglected the task. Well, Mum was right. As always.
The bed is the focal point of the bedroom, so a messy bed automatically makes the whole room messy. It works in reverse too – if your bed is made, your bedroom looks more maintained despite the surrounding mess.
Making your bed every day means that you’ll have to actually make time for it in the morning, but trust us, it’s well worth the sacrifice of sleeping in a couple extra minutes!
You don’t even need to be pedantic about the arrangement of the cushions, but you’ll feel better simply coming home to a bed that looks inviting.
2. Pack your washing frequently
We’d say ‘immediately’, but we know that life is busy and washing baskets often get forgotten for days at a time. You can draw the line when you’re looking for your clean clothes in the basket rather than the closet.
Make it a habit of packing away your freshly-washed clothes as soon as you can. The more often you do, the less your bedroom will look like a department store hurricane.
Likewise, put away your shoes as soon as you take them off. It’s a pet peeve for many with partners who don’t (ugh), so motivate them by investing in a shoe rack! Problem solved.
3. Declutter your bedside table
Even though the bedside table has only a small surface space, it’s not unusual to find odd items sitting on it. Find another place for your phone charger, put your watch away before climbing into bed, and regularly wash and pack away any glasses of water you’ve used throughout the night.
If your pre-sleep hobby involves larger items, like knitting or reading, opt for a bedside table with drawers to pack it away each night. When in doubt, think of what you see on a bedside table in a hotel room!
4. Open the windows
Sounds simple enough to roll your eyes at, but the truth is that our bedrooms need the sun and fresh air just as much as we do. You might think you pull back the blinds often enough, but do you really?
It’s not hard to binge-watch Netflix, only to realise that you’ve been cooped up in a room of darkness all weekend. Freshen up the place by letting natural light pour in. Sunlight is a powerful disinfectant so it’s as good for your sheets as it is looks!
Drape your curtains fashionably for real hotel vibes. Such a small change can add a whole lot of luxury.
5. Throw out anything that’s out of date
From outdated magazines to cloggy makeup, toss out anything that has been sitting in your drawers for too long. Hotel rooms are spacious and minimalist, that’s why we find them so relaxing.
Instead of taking this tip as a dreaded spring clean, take it as a daily habit. Simply throw out any bits of rubbish that you come across while doing your usual routine.
Found a tattered belt while getting dressed? Toss. Found a gloopy nail polish next to your hairbrush? Toss. Expired gift voucher in your top drawer? Toss.
Eventually your space will free up and give you peace of mind having only things you need in your bedroom! The same way you only pack the things you need on a holiday 😉
